SPORTS services have been warmly praised by councillors.
Flintshire-based projects like Free Swim and Dragon Sport, which offer extra-curricular activities to youngsters, have been hailed as ‘heartwarming’ services by members of Flintshire Council.
The positive comments were made at a lifelong learning scrutiny meeting at County Hall.
Mold East councillor Chris Bithell: “It’s very gratifying and pleasing to see what has become of this and the contribution it has made to advancing sport in this county.
“It’s a very worthwhile scheme and we recognise the potential and the impact this will have.
“What would children be doing if they weren’t taking part in sport? Taking part in anti-social behaviour.
“Let’s keep the whole process going.”
The council received more than £1million in funding for sport after it entered the Local Authority Partnership Agreement with the Sports Council for Wales in 2008.
Treuddyn councillor Carolyn Thomas said she was a big fan of the Free Swim initiative.
She added: “It is really appreciated, especially by families with lots of children.”
Mold West councillor Carolyn Cattermoul said: “It is heartwarming to see so much going on in Flintshire.”
