A KIND-hearted Flintshire councillor has pledged a cash reward to find the thieves responsible for stealing a disabled child’s prized possession.

Connah’s Quay councillor Bernie Attridge has put up £100 for any information which leads to the conviction of the heartless thieves who stole a motorised beach buggy belonging to six-year-old Dylan Morris.

Dylan, from Connah’s Quay, was left brain damaged after a horrific motorway crash in 2005 that claimed the life of his father Carl.

Cllr Attridge said: “I can’t believe that someone could do such a wicked thing to Dylan.

"I knew his father very well, he was well respected in Connah’s Quay and was always known as the gentle giant. For some sick person to steal Dylan’s pride and joy is the lowest of the low.

“I hope North Wales Police put in plenty of resources to catch these criminals and

I’m calling on all the decent people of Connah’s Quay to help catch this thief.”

Dylan’s mother Helen, a classroom assistant at Golftyn Primary School, discovered that Dylan’s treasured buggy, worth £300, was missing from their garden in Bryn Road on February 25.

She said: “I would like to thank Bernie – it is very, very kind of him. He and Carl were quite good friends because they knew each other from school.”

Helen has politely refused offers from a number of local people who said they would cover the cost of a new buggy.

“It’s not that I’m not grateful for their kindness, it’s just that I’d prefer it if we had his old buggy back,” she said.

Cllr Attridge says if the culprits are not found within a month he will hold a charity night at Connah’s Quay Labour Club in a bid to raise enough money to buy Dylan a replacement buggy.

He added: “Helen and the family have suffered enough with the very sad loss of Carl so this is the last thing they need. I won’t let these perpetrators ruin Dylan’s quality of life.”

Helen and her other children, Megan, seven, and Jasmine, 12, were all involved in the horrific motorway crash that claimed the life of 33-year-old Carl.

The family were travelling to Cleethorpes for their first ever holiday when they were hit head-on by a car travelling the wrong way down the M180 at 90mph.

Anyone with information about the buggy theft should call police on the non-emergency 101 number.
