OWNERS of a 10ft wall which collapsed in Wrexham were due to meet with structural engineers.

The wall on Summerhill Road is part of the Stansty Park estate and fell at about 7.40am on Saturday, just missing a car.

The road has now been closed off between the Mold Road roundabout and the junction of Griffiths Road and Summerhill Road.

Quentin Dodd, who owns the wall along with three other families, told the Leader: “It’s an unfortunate incident, but the wall was maintained.”

He said that they were going to meet with a private structural engineer to assess the situation.

“The council want to get the road open as soon as possible,” said Mr Dodd.

He added that the reason for the wall collapse could be because of the severe frosts and the thawing out over the weekend.

The wall fell on the Stansty Park side of the road about 100 yards in the Wrexham direction from Pendine Park Nursing Home.

Gwynfor Jones, chief executive officer of Pendine Park, said: “It’s an inconvenience for this to happen but it’s lucky that no-one was hurt.

“It looks like it will take quite a bit of work to shift the stones.”

Cllr Arfon Jones, who covers Gwersyllt West, said: “People walk along that side of the road, staff are walking to Pendine Park and there is a bus stop near part of the wall.

“The wall could have collapsed on top of people and nearly hit a couple of cars.”
