WREXHAM’S Queensway Stadium could be rocking tomorrow - especially if   free-kick specialist Barry ‘Boomer’ Torrence gets his shooting boots on.

Torrence has been one of a number of big-hits in Queen’s Park rise up the North Wales football pyramid which continues with a Welsh Trophy home quarter-final tie against Welsh Alliance title-chasers Llandudno Junction (1.30pm kick off).

“We’re having a great season,” said Torrence, who has scored 16 goals from his central midfield berth this season.

“Everyone is playing well and there’s a good chemistry between all of the players.

“This tie means everything to everyone. They’re all talking about it in Queen’s Park -in the pubs, everywhere. And it’s great that we’re playing the game at Queensway.”

More than 200 supporters are expected to watch tomorrow’s last-eight tie where Torrence will fancy his chances of adding to his impressive goal tally.

“Things are going well and, to be honest, I’ve scored a couple of ‘worldies’ lately. They just seem to be going in for me,” added the 26-year-old.

“All the lads have started calling me ‘Barry Boomer’ and it would be great to score another tomorrow.”

Torrence, who plays in a Park side that features his brother Andy, heaps much of the praise on Park’s rise up the Welsh National League table to boss Martin Ford.

“Martin Ford’s done a great job and is working really hard to get this club where he wants them to be,” added Torrence, who also wants to remember the work of club stalwart Darren Roberts, who died three years ago.

“Darren did a lot of work for the club and helped me too during my early playing days with The Venture.”

Queen’s Park, who are third in Welsh National League table, face a Junction side who are also in the top three in Division One of the Welsh Alliance.

But boss Ford will have his players fired up for this one and has the luxury of a full squad to choose from.

“This Welsh Trophy quarter-final is the biggest game in this club’s history and confidence is high as the whole squad has stepped up to a whole new level and it's a joy to watch.,” said Ford.

“We haven't conceded a goal in open play for five games - only a penalty against Bricky.

“It’s since Andy Torrence is back playing, it is a massive boost for the whole club.”

Rhostyllen are also still in the competition to keep the dream of an all-Wrexham final alive.

The North East Wales League title-chasers face a tricky away tie at Pontymister where they will be cheered on by a bus-load of travelling fans.

Manager Gareth Parry said: “We are really looking forward to Saturday. It's a massive game for us to have in our first season, and to get to this stage of the cup is an achievement.”

“We've beaten some decent teams to get this far and hopefully we can make it through to the semi finals.

“Ever since the draw it's been the talk of the squad and everyone is looking forward to the day out.

“We are taking a bus down with around 25 supporters plus the squad and fingers crossed we come back with a positive result.”

The only player missing out for Rhostyllen’s big game is Rob Gibson.

Mid-Wales side Carno host Sully Sports and Llanrahedr head to Abergavenny in the other two ties.

Corwen are involved in two cup matches tomorrow.

Their first team host Welsh National League leaders FC Nomads in the Premier Division Cup while in the Reserves Division Cup, Corwen have a derby cracker, away at Llangollen

In the second round of the Horace Wynne Cup, there’s an all North East Wales League affair between Maesgwyn and Ewloe Spartans.
