PREPARATIONS are revving up for the 50th anniversary of a vintage vehicle rally in Shrewsbury.

The County of Salop Steam Engine Society will host the two-day event at Onslow Park later this month where more than 60 bicycles ranging from 1890 to 1960 will be on display.

Also delighting visitors will be a standing display of 150 motorcycles in the main arena plus three penny farthings.

Mayor of Shrewsbury, Cllr Tony Durnell, will be a special guest at the event in which society president Jim Cook will showcase his own 1956 Norton Dominator 99 motorcycle.

Jim and his wife Joan, who is section secretary for pedal cycles, engine judges and cup secretary, have been members of the society since 1975 and will also be taking a 1960 Triumph TR3A.

Keith Foster, section secretary for motorcycles will take his 1934 Sunbeam Model 8 to the rally.

Keith said: “We have a varied selection of motorcycles, ranging from a 1964 BSA Goldstar to a Royal Enfield WD and a Morgan Super Sports, so enthusiasts will be delighted by the different makes.”

He added: “The 50th anniversary rally will be celebrated in some style with our display being the best ever.

“There will a motorcycle from each of the years between 1948 and 1971.”

The rally is on Sunday, August 28 and Monday, August 29.
