A CHARITY Concert in memory of a popular young woman who died last year raised thousands of pounds for good causes.

The concert at St Chad’s Church, given by classical chart-toppers Fron Male Voice Choir, was held in memory of Shrewsbury-born Vikki Purslow (nee Jones), who died last year following a battle with cancer.

Vikki, who was just 27, studied at Shrewsbury College of Arts and Technology before graduating in Graphic Design at Wolverhampton University.

Remarkably, she became the youngest person in Europe to gain a violin teaching qualification after studying at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

The concert featured soprano Virginia Peaceful who taught Vikki maths when she was a pupil atat Sir John Talbot School in Whitchurch.

Also appearing was an instrumental trio featuring Anna Brakel, who was one of Vikki’s pupils.

Vikki’s grandfather, Dave Jones, who was one of the organisers of the concert said:
“Vikki taught at Musicland in Market Drayton for a number of years, it was one of her great passions.

“It is very important to keep her memory alive - she will never be forgotten.”

Vikki died in September last year, leaving her husband Matthew and her two daughters, Amelie, 6, and Cleo 1.

She was born in Shrewsbury and had lived in Whitchurch, Market Drayton and Coedpoeth, Wrexham.

The concert raised a total of £4,277 which will be shared between two charities - Fresh Start New Beginnings - a Shrewsbury-based charity which assists offenders with resettling before and after their release, and Nightingale House Hospice, Wrexham.

It is hoped the memorial concert will become an annual event.
