A ROCK festival to be held this weekend has been cancelled.

Poor ticket sales meant the Never Mind The Bullocks Festival at the Shropshire County Showground in Shrewsbury on Saturday was dropped at the last minute.
Organisers are now scouring pubs and clubs in Shropshire who will stage a scaled-down event at a later date.

Proceeds from the one-day festival would have been donated to Midlands Air Ambulance.

A statement by the organising committee said: “It was not a decision we took lightly.

“Due to the costs of staging the event exceeding £2,500, at least 500 tickets needed to be sold to break even.

“Due to lack of support and despite a concerted campaign of posters and social networking, only 40 tickets have been sold.

“This would have resulted not only in no money for the Air Ambulance but a substantial loss for us as organisers and those providing the venue and facilities.

“We appreciate that times are also hard financially for the majority of people at the moment.”

Organisers apologised to those who bought tickets, adding they are still keen to raise funds for the charity.

Set to headline the festival was rock band Leader of Down, headed by former Motorhead guitarist Wurzel.

Also due to perform were Arcade Parade, The Greens, Someone Else, Kenobi and Nikki Rous.

Refunds are available from Clive at Music Bros on 01743 240231 for those not wishing to attend the alternative venue if found.
