A MULTI-million pound cancer centre to be built in Shrewsbury is looking for a name.

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is inviting people to come up with a name for the new £5 million cancer and haematology centre to be built on the site of the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

Bosses are also looking for design artwork to be displayed in the centre which includes a new reception area, outpatient unit for haematology and oncology patients, and a day unit for chemotherapy and head and neck cancer patients.

The art competition invites people to submit any type of artwork, photography or sculpture which fits into a skyscape or landscape category.

All shortlisted entries will be displayed at a week-long exhibition at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in November before the winning entries are decided and displayed in the new building when it opens in autumn 2012.

The naming competition asks people to put forward up to three names for the building, the first floor haematology department and the chemotherapy/oncology department.

Adrian Osborne, head of communications and business development at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, said: “We are really excited to launch these competitions.

“We are committed to involving people in the future of our cancer and haematology services - that’s why we want you to choose the name of the building and fill it with artwork that’s been produced by local people. We look forward to receiving your entries.”

Entries for both of the competitions must be submitted before 5pm on October 7.
