An annual flower show where anyone can show their craft, cookery and vegetable growing skills saw a growth in participation this year.

The Burton and Rossett Horticultural Society (BRHS) held its 72nd Annual Flower Show today (August 27) and saw local people, as well as from others from the surrounding region take part and show what they can do.

The society dates back to the mid-1800s originally but has run in its current show since the end of the war. In that time they have only missed one flower show, during the pandemic in 2020, and last year the show went ahead but was affected by restrictions.

The show was held at Darland High School in Rossett, and trophies were awarded to the best exhibitors in each section which includes flowers, vegetables, novice, novelty, craft, cookery, honey, wine, floral art, and junior sections.

Pat Weir, the President of the BRHS said that there is always a lot of competition particularly in with the vegetables, and was pleased with the entries this year.

She said: "I am delighted with the quality of the entries, especially as it's been such a difficult year. We haven't had any rain, I don't know how these things have grown and I'm delighted that there's still an interest to keep the show going and I hope it carries on for another 70 years!"

David Weir, chairman of BRHS added: "It's a good show, there's more exhibitors than last year, and having missed years due to Covid, I think we've recovered very well.

"I'm looking forward to next year!"

The BRHS offers memberships and holds events throughout the ear.
