MIKE FONDOP insists he has got nothing to prove at Wrexham and the striker is aiming to heap more misery on his former club.

Fondop will come up against the Reds for the second time in five days tomorrow when Chesterfield face Dean Keates' side at The Proact Stadium in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie.

Wrexham lost 1-0 at home on Tuesday and replaced fellow strugglers Chesterfield in the relegation zone, with Fondop, who started the match, hoping to get on the scoresheet as the Spireites target a second win.

"The only one I have got a point to prove to is God," said Fondop.

"I came here on Tuesday just to play my game, I didn't have to prove anything to the fans because I know what I am capable of.

"I didn't have to prove anything to the Wrexham manager and staff, just prove something to God and myself, and I am happy with that.

"Every game is a tough game whether it is the league, FA Cup or any cup.

"Should it be against Wrexham, Fylde or Sutton, it doesn't matter.

"A game is a game, that is my job and I have got to be on it 100 per cent.

"I have only got one thing on my mind, to bully the centre-backs and score goals."

Fondop joined Wrexham last summer following spells with Guiseley and Halifax, and the frontman struck five times in the opening six games of the 2018-19 campaign.

But the goals dried up - Fondop only scored once more in the FA Trophy against Boston - and he ended the season on loan at Maidenhead.

After reluctantly leaving by mutual agreement in August following talks with then-boss Bryan Hughes, Fondop signed for Chesterfield despite having 12 months left on his contract but the 25-year-old insists he would have been happy to stay at The Racecourse.

"I didn't want to leave Wrexham personally but it was the manager's decision," said Fondop.

"He told me clearly that I wasn't in his plans but I believed in myself.

"I knew that if I wasn't in his plans then I might as well go because there would be a team out there that would be willing to sign me and I was patient.

"I would loved to have stayed but when the manager doesn't want you, there is nothing that you can do."

Fondop has scored seven goals in 13 league games for the Spireites - five came in his first five appearances - and he jumped at the chance to sign for the club when they showed an interest.

“I didn’t know Chesterfield would come in for me but when they showed interest, it was a no-brainer," he added.

“I am grateful that I have started the season well.”

Fondop was disappointed with how his spell at Wrexham panned out but he will always be grateful for the support he got from fans who applauded him when he was substituted in midweek.

"I started the season well for Wrexham before being dropped," said Fondop.

"Some of the managers were honest with me, others weren't, but that is part of football.

"When it happens you just have to accept it and work hard.

"The fans were always good with me. They always gave me a round of applause and I had a good ovation from them on Tuesday.

"I know sometimes I was a bit nasty in the game and going in with players but football is competitive and there are no friends when you play.

"A lot of fans didn't want me to leave and I didn't really have a chance to say goodbye because of the way I left.

"When I came to Wrexham they welcomed me on and off the pitch and I thank them for their support."
