LUKE SUMMERFIELD believes the early signs are good since Dean Keates was appointed manager.

Keates has returned to The Racecourse for a second spell as manager and saw the Reds, struggling at the wrong end of the National League table, take the lead against Harrogate in his first game last Tuesday before conceding a late equaliser.

After ringing the changes for Saturday's Scottish Challenge Cup fourth round tie with St Mirren Colts, Keates presided over a 4-1 victory and Summerfield believes there are a lot of positives to take into tonight's home game with lowly Chesterfield.

"It has been a good start so far," said Summerfield.

"It was a good performance against Harrogate, especially with the change in manager and how quick it came about, and only the Monday to work on things.

"We had enough chances to win the game and we have got to take positives from that.

"There were changes at the weekend and we take positives from a win.

"Our common goal is to get promoted and get up the league at the moment, and to win was a bonus to take into the Chesterfield game."

Wrexham, only out of the relegation zone on goal difference, also face Chesterfield at The Proact Stadium on Saturday in an FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie.

But Summerfield is just focussed on getting three points to improve Wrexham's position before concentrating on the cup.

"Results haven't been good enough from the start of the season and when you look at the league table, everybody is there on merit," said Summerfield.

"But we know we have got enough capabilities to get us out of this position.

"Chesterfield will be looking for points as well but if we carry on the way we have been the last week or so, we know we can get points.

"To have them twice in a week is a strange thing but that is football.

"We have just got to concentrate on tonight.

"It is a massive game for us, it is in the league and we will look to win the game."
