BOBBY GRANT admits the Wrexham players have let down manager Bryan Hughes and they are to blame for the poor run of form.

Wrexham drew 1-1 against Sutton United at The Racecourse on Saturday and have now gone six games without a league win, with the 19th placed Reds only four points ahead of bottom of the table Ebbsfleet United.

Under-fire boss Hughes has come in for criticism from supporters but Grant insists the players take full responsibility.

"The gaffer has told us his feelings after the game, it is not good enough and I fully agree with him," said Grant.

"We have to stand up out there; we have to win the battles physically, mentally, everything over the pitch, especially when we are at home.

"We got a result out of it but that is not good enough; no disrespect to Sutton but we should be beating them at home.

"It is only us who can turn it around. You can blame the manager, it is the players and we need to turn this form around. We get put on the pitch.

"We work extremely hard in training but when it comes to games, it means nothing. You need to get results on the board and performing out there.

"We will continue to do everything properly and we will get the break sooner rather than later - we have to.

"As a group of players, we need to go on that pitch believing we are good enough to beat the teams in this league. We proved it last year but that is in the past."

Wrexham were booed off at the final whistle after Grant's 88th minute penalty salvaged a point against Sutton following a woeful performance.

But rather than sulk, Grant remains determined to put things right.

"The fans have every right to criticise the players and say what they are saying," said Grant.

"I have been in the game long enough and we are the only ones who can turn it around, no-one else. It is no-one else's fault.

"Fans pay their money to come and watch, you have to give them something to sing about.

"There is no point in me creating excuse after excuse, it gets you nowhere.

"You have got to front it, you have got to go out there and perform. And if you don't perform, you will go under.

"Wrexham is a massive football club, the fans expect you to win games, especially at home, and I am no different. I expect to be winning football matches.

"Myself, the group of players, we need to take a good look at ourselves and put it right."

Grant, top scorer with four goals, says his latest strike counted for little as Wrexham failed to win against Sutton.

"It was a pressure penalty to get us a point out of the game but unless we win football matches, it means nothing," added Grant.

"Scoring a penalty doesn't paint over the cracks, we need to start performing."
