NICKY DEVERDICS has had a frustrating season but the midfielder hopes he still has a future at Wrexham under Graham Barrow.

The 31-year-old, restricted to just two league starts under Sam Ricketts, returned to the side for Saturday's 3-0 win against Boston United in the first round of the FA Trophy.

Despite a lack of game time, Deverdics insists he is happy at The Racecourse and is determined to fight for his place.

But Deverdics, out of contract at the end of the season, admits he might have to consider his options if there is a lack of opportunities.

"I like it here," said Deverdics, who joined Wrexham from Hartlepool United for an undisclosed fee in January 2018.

"At a different club, I might have cut my losses and said I need to move on because I need to be playing games, which I am desperate to do.

"I have said to Graham, I said to the gaffer before he left, that I want to be here.

"I am happy at the club. I like the players, I like the staff, I have got no problem with Graham, I just need to be playing games.

"I need to start playing more soon otherwise I am going to really have to start thinking about it because I need to prove myself for the future as well because I am out of contract in the summer."

But although Deverdics would like to be a regular starter, he is pleased Wrexham are among the National League frontrunners ahead of today's trip to Aldershot.

"It has been frustrating on a personal level but we are in a good position in the league," said Deverdics.

"At the end of the day we are a squad, a tight squad, but obviously I am desperate to play more minutes.

"After a couple of years of playing every minute of every game, I will never get used to sitting out and waiting, it is really frustrating.

"It is just a case of taking my chance when I get it and giving the staff a problem."

Barrow rang the changes against Boston and Deverdics was pleased with his performance as he helped Wrexham build up a three-goal lead by the break.

Deverdics hopes he has given Barrow, who has been appointed the new Reds boss, something to think about.

"Obviously I was delighted to play," added Deverdics. "It was probably the game I have been waiting for because I knew there was a good chance of changing things up.

"I am always confident in my own ability, that has never been in question, it is just fitness for me because it has been so long since I have started a game.

"Second half I started to tire but I was just happy to be back out there and prove my point. I know it is a team from the league below but at least go some way to doing that.

"I just hope it has not put a spanner in the works for Graham but given him something to think about for future league games.

"He now knows what I am about."
