SPENCER HARRIS says it will take "as long as it takes" to appoint a new Wrexham manager.

The club are looking to appoint a successor to Sam Ricketts who was unveiled as the Shrewsbury Town chief on December 3.

His assistant, Graham Barrow, has taken over as interim manager and has since signed a new contract keeping him at The Racecourse until the end of the 2020-21 season.

Harris was coy about how close the club were to announcing their new boss but is happy with how things are going on the pitch, with Wrexham among the National League frontrunners and through to the second round of the FA Trophy after beating Boston United 3-0 on Saturday.

"We are moving through our process and that is what we are focussed on," said Harris.

"The ultimate is to get the right result for the football club and that will be as quick as we can make it, as long as it takes.

"We have a brilliant team in place here, we have got plans for the future and where we are going, so there is no mad rush.

"We will do what is right for the football club in the speed it takes."

Former Wrexham defender Dennis Lawrence, who is manager of Trinidad & Tobago, is one of the favourites to replace Ricketts.

The Trinidad & Tobago FA recently said it has "no intentions" of allowing Lawrence, who is under contract until January 2019, to enter talks with Wrexham and Harris would not reveal if the 44 year old was still in the running.

"It would be very unfair for me to give any clues," said Harris.

"There will always be speculation around football clubs but we have to do our business behind closed doors.

"Then when it is right and we have got the right result for this football club, we will tell people as soon as possible.

"This is an amazing football club with an amazing support and an amazing future.

"There is so many things falling into place for this club for the future that whoever comes in and takes this job, can potentially have some great things on their CV."

Barrow, part of the coaching staff at Wigan Athletic alongside Lawrence under Roberto Martinez, does not expect his former colleague to get the job.

"I think that has dragged on so maybe that is not going to happen," said Barrow.

"But I think they are getting closer so I would expect somebody in before Saturday."

Barrow continues to be linked with the vacancy on a full-time basis but he added: "We haven't really had that conversation."

Barrow says the Wrexham players haven't been affected by the wait to appoint a new manager.

"It seems to be fine," added Barrow.

"The players enjoy training, obviously with me working with them since pre-season it has been quite smooth; the circumstances with Sam leaving and that Newport game, it was a good game and they did perform.

"Won a league game, won a cup game and lost a replay but through not fault of their own so quite positive and I think the dressing room is quite bubbly.

"Whatever happens, they are taking over a good dressing room, a club in a healthy position which I don't think you can get any better."
