STUART BEAVON has set his sights on Wembley and completing a non-league cup double with Wrexham.

Beavon was part of the Didcot Town team that won the FA Vase in 2005, the striker netting twice in a 3-2 win over Sudbury at Tottenham’s White Hart Lane.

At 34, Beavon is set to make his first appearance in the FA Trophy as Boston United visit The Racecourse in round one this afternoon.

And the experienced frontman fancies another Wembley appearance having won the EFL Trophy with Coventry last year.

“It’s the trophy the lower league teams can win, so we are looking forward to it,” said Beavon. “I don’t think, in any way shape or form, the Newport County defeat will take anything away from how we are feeling.

“Competitions like this are massive, huge. When I was at Didcot it literally put us on the map.

“It’s not going to put Wrexham on the map, because it’s a massive club as it is, but it’s a competition you can win.

“I’ve been lucky enough to play at Wembley and the final is there. That’s what any player dreams of as a kid and there’s that opportunity.”

Asked what he knew about the FA Trophy, Beavon continued: “The only reason I know about it - I’ve never played in it - is when we won the FA Vase.

“Grays Athletic won the FA Trophy and we played them in a friendly where they brought the FA Cup down as well so you had all three trophies.”
