LUKE SUMMERFIELD believes that Wrexham are perfectly prepared for the visit of Boston United.

Wrexham were the hunters as they looked to cause an FA Cup shock against Newport County in midweek, but will become the hunted with National League North outfit Boston visiting The Racecourse on Saturday.

Summerfield and his team mates know that they can't afford to let standards slip with Boston eyeing up an FA Trophy upset.

"That's football," said Summerfield. "We went into the Newport games with a lot of confidence after how well we've played and it will be no surprise that Boston will come here and look to make it a really good cup tie at a great place to play."

The FA Trophy might not have the 'magic' of the FA Cup, but there is the carrot of a showpiece Wembley final as Summerfield is well aware of.

"When I was on-loan at Macclesfield we got to the final and lost to York," said Summerfield, who came off the bench in the 3-2 loss in 2017.

"It's another cup competition to look forward to and hopefully we will do well in this one.

"It's like every cup competition. It's a nice way of releasing pressure from the league.

"It's another competition you want to win. When the whistle blows you don't say 'oh it's the cup', it's another trophy to win.

"Whoever we play, who we are against - teams above, teams below - our plans and preparation don't change."

Asked about his recollection of that cup run, the 31-year-old said: "We had a lot of Saturday-Tuesday games.

"Every game blended into one. It was a case of get your boots off and then go again.

"But a big thing in football is momentum. If you can keep that going it's a good thing."

Wrexham go into the contest on the back of a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Newport on Tuesday, a result that was helped along by Luke Young's red card after just 13 minutes.

Summerfield reflected: "I thought we started really well. We went there with a game plan, and although it was only 10 or 15 minutes into the game, but I thought we were carrying it out well.

"We knew we were easily capable of causing them a lot of trouble like we did in the first game.

"We had full confidence in the game plan to go and win.

"It was a shame with the sending off and how that went, but that's football and things like that happen."

Asked whether the sight of referee Kevin Johnson reaching for his red card was a shock, Summerfield continued: "It was yes. It was a massive game and you don't think things like that are going to happen in such big games so early on.

"I've not seen it back, but I didn't think it was a red at the time.

"But that's gone, the game has gone and we can't look back on it now.

"We've had a good cup run and it would have been nice to go again, but our main aim this season is to get promoted and that's not changed however the game went on Tuesday.

"We will dust ourselves off and get ready for another cup game on Saturday."
