WREXHAM ended a run of four games without a win by beating Eastleigh 2-0 at The Racecourse.

The Reds had taken two points from their previous three league matches and drawn with Newport County in the FA Cup, and victory against the Spitfires keeps the Reds among the National League frontrunners.

Goals is each half from James Jennings and Bobby Grant sealed three points for Wrexham under interim manager Graham Barrow.

The starting line-up showed two changes from the side that drew against Newport County in the FA Cup seven days earlier.

Captain Shaun Pearson, who has signed a new contract keeping him at the Racecourse until the summer of 2021, and midfielder Brad Walkers were ruled out through suspension so Jennings and Manny Smith came into the team.

Smith was making his first appearance since suffering a knee injury at Solihull Moors on August 27 while Jennings' inclusion meant Mark Carrington switched to midfield.

Wrexham made a dream start by taking the lead with less than two minutes on the clock.

Jennings exchanged passed with Paul Rutherford and sent in a cross from the left that dipped over goalkeeper Max Stryjek and found the top corner of the net.

Ben Williamson headed over for Eastleigh but Wrexham came close to doubling their advantage in the 25th minute when Jennings' header from a corner was cleared off the line by Cavaghn Miley who also blocked Akil Wright's follow-up.

Wright fired into the side-netting as Wrexham continued to press while Eastleigh countered and Miley headed over the bar and Mark Yeates' cross evaded a packed penalty area to the Reds' relief.

Wright shot straight at Stryjek with the final chance of the first half for Wrexham who were forced into a substitution six minutes after the restart with Luke Young replacing the injured Kevin Roberts.

Eastleigh had made a lively start to the second half but Wrexham doubled their lead on 58 minutes.

Stuart Beavon's pass found Rutherford who laid off to Grant and the striker fired past Stryjek.

It should have been 3-0 but Beavon headed wide from Rutherford's cross while Grant was off target with another chance before going even closer after being set-up by Rutherford but the ball drifted inches wide.

Wrexham's defence was caught out when Paul McCallum fed Oscar Gobern who brought a save out of Rob Lainton.

Chris Holroyd replaced Beavon after 81 minutes while Mike Fondop came on for Grant in added time, and Wrexham ran out winners.
