SAM RICKETTS has urged his Wrexham players to seize the moment against Weston-super-Mare on Sunday.

The Reds' reward for reaching the first round of the FA Cup for the first time in four seasons in a clash against the Seagulls, who are bottom of National League South, at the Woodspring Stadium.

Although he won't be taking Weston lightly, Ricketts wants his side to take another step closer to a potentially money-spinning third round tie.

"It is something the club hasn't experienced for a few years now so it is good to bring that excitement back for what is the world's greatest club cup competition," said Ricketts.

"What I keep stressing to the players is seize an opportunity.

"This week the opportunity is in the FA Cup to get into the next round. You don't know what the draw is going to be and first and foremost we need to put a performance in.

"But if you get into the next round, you don't know where you could end up.

"The beauty of the FA Cup is you could end up at Manchester United or Chelsea away if you do it right in these early rounds."

Ricketts insists Wrexham, back at the top of the National League table following Saturday's 3-1 win over Gateshead, will treat Weston exactly the same as any other opponent.

"Different competition, same preparation. We are not taking anything lightly, training won't be any different," said Ricketts.

"We'll be flat out to go and win this game exactly like we are every league game.

"That is really important because we are a club that wants to be successful and to be successful, you win games and this is another game for us to win.

"You have to go there and be as professional as we are for every league game we go into.

"If we just turn up expecting to win the game, we won't, it is as simple as that.

"The rewards are there for us to win this game and hopefully have a good cup run."
