STUART BEAVON wants to put the Chesterfield disappointment behind him with back-to-back home wins.

Wrexham face Hartlepool United at The Racecourse tonight with the Reds also at home to Gateshead on Saturday.

Sam Ricketts’ side go into the double header on the back of a seven game unbeaten run, although Wrexham had to be content with just a point from a 1-1 draw against Chesterfield at the weekend after conceding a stoppage-time equaliser.

Beavon isn’t dwelling on Saturday’s stalemate and wants to hit back with three points tonight as third-placed Wrexham head into the game only one point behind National League leaders Leyton Orient.

“We were disappointed to concede a late goal,” said Beavon.

“It is a draw at the end of the day, it is not a loss, and we are still on a good run, there’s no disputing that.

“It was disappointing not to get the three points but we will move on and we go again.

“We need to look forward now, it is Hartlepool at home and we need to go out there and put in another performance and get some more points on the board.

“Hopefully we can keep the good run going.”

Wrexham are yet to lose at The Racecourse this season and Beavon hopes to maintain that record with two successive wins.

“We are looking to get the six points and keep our unbeaten run going,” said Beavon. “I’ve always said we want to improve every game and after Saturday, we need to keep improving.

“We are a confident bunch and we go into every game believing we can win. That is the way you need to be.

“We are a grounded bunch, a good bunch of lads.

“Against Chesterfield we started well and got in front. Maybe we sat back a little bit but they threw everything forward and in the end got a goal.”

On-loan midfielder Brad Walker, who gave Wrexham the lead from the penalty spot at Chesterfield, believes former club Hartlepool, ninth in the table after losing just three times in 17 games, will be tough opponents.

But the Crewe Alexandra man is backing Wrexham to get back to winning ways.

“Hartlepool are a good side,” said Walker.

“It will be a tough test and hopefully we can get three points.

“The way we are playing and where we are going, we want to win every game.

“Unfortunately we couldn’t do that but if you’d have said to anyone before the game that you’d have gone to Chesterfield and got a point, most people would take it.

“But the lads were absolutely gutted because they know what we can do and I thought first half we could have been out of sight.”

Walker recognises the importance of Wrexham continuing to make the Racecourse a fortress in the push for promotion.

“Our home form is massive and it will be for every team in this league,” added Walker.

“They have got to get wins at home because you can go to Braintree, go all over, and the football is not nice but you have got to grind it out.

“So when we have got the chance to play at home we have got to take full advantage of that.”
