SAM RICKETTS knows an FA Cup run could make a “huge difference” to Wrexham Football Club.

Victory over Harrogate pocketed the Reds £25,000 and handed them a first round tie with Weston-Super-Mare, where success would bring in another £36,000.

Ricketts is well-aware that those sums of money can have a positive impact on the Reds.

He said: “It can be a huge difference to the club.

“It can be the difference between another player coming in or getting some infrastructure in place behind the scenes, which can stand the club in good stead for years to come.

“When an opportunity comes or when the club has some money come in, it’s great because you can do things which otherwise your hands would be tied.”

There is £54,000 up for grabs for victorious second round teams and that prize money increases to £135,000 for going a step further.

“If you can get through the first couple of rounds the prize money increases dramatically,” continued Ricketts, who isn’t taking the challenge of Weston-Super-Mare lightly.

Ricketts was part of a Telford team that stunned Brentford and Crewe back in 2003/04, losing to eventual finalists Millwall in round four.

“Weston-Super-Mare will be a tough place to go to,” he said. “If it had been at home then you would say it is a more comfortable game.

“Going away it will be tougher, I’m fully respectful of that because I’ve been in that lower side in the FA Cup playing against a bigger side.

“If you don’t go there and respect them then you will get turned over.”
