SAM RICKETTS has hailed the spirit and togetherness in the Wrexham ranks which he says is vital in pursuit of success.

The former Wales international took charge at The Racecourse in May and although he inherited the core of last season's squad, completed a number of signings and has a 22 man squad at his disposal.

That means competition for places is fierce but Ricketts says there is an excellent bond between the players.

"The players' togetherness is excellent," said Ricketts.

"All the players who have come in - there have been 12 or so who have joined the group this season - there is a really good atmosphere in the dressing room.

"Good lads, no big egos, everyone gets their head down and works hard, is there for each other and backs each other which is hugely important.

"You want a dressing room that is together, to help and to fight for each other, but you want them to enjoy coming to work every day.

"I'm not saying you have to be best mates but getting along with the players you work with certainly helps and it appears we have that here."

Wrexham are second in the National League, on the same number of points as leaders Salford City, and Ricketts admits the games can't come quick enough with the Reds in a rich vein of form.

"We are used to a lot of games," added Ricketts, who takes his side to Chesterfield on Saturday.

"I think the players would always rather play matches than training to be honest with you, especially when you are on a good run of form and things are going well.

"You are happy that the games come thick and fast."
