Wrexham defender Doug Tharme has joined National League North side AFC Telford United on loan.

The 19-year-old has put pen-to-paper with the Bucks this afternoon (Thursday) until December 28, 2019, where he will team up with former Reds Ross White and Jon Royle who currently turn out for the Shropshire-based side.

The central defender came through the ranks at The Racecourse and signed his first professional contract last summer but was restricted to just five appearances last season.

And now Tharme, who faced competition from fellow Wrexham centre backs Shaun Pearson, Jake Lawlor, Adam Barton and Manny Smith, will look to impress in his loan stint.

Manager Bryan Hughes said of the move: “It will be great for Doug to go out and play some games at a good level.

"It’s the perfect opportunity for him to go out there and perform.

“Doug will hopefully enjoy the experience and come back hunting for a place in our side. We will monitor his progress closely, I wish him well and the very best of luck during his time with Telford.”
