WREXHAM'S play-off heartbreak is a thing of the past and Bryan Hughes is firmly focussed on the future.

The promotion dream come to an end in May when Wrexham were beaten 1-0 by Eastleigh in their eliminator tie at The Racecourse.

The Reds are preparing for a 12th campaign in non-league and Hughes, who has strengthened his squad ahead of another crack at trying to return the club to the Football League, believes the pre-season vibes have been good around The Racecourse.

"Eastleigh has not been mentioned once in our pre-season really," said Hughes.

"I think from the first day, once you get onto that training ground you see the new faces coming in with the guys who were here last season as well; the experienced players who have been at the club for a while.

"It gives everyone a lift and from the first day to where we are now, the environment has been very positive.

"You just feel it when you are walking around the place - it is a nice feeling.

"I know it is only pre-season and there is still a long way to go but the signs are positive that we can have a real good campaign this year."

Wrexham complete their pre-season schedule with a home game against Crewe Alex on Saturday before the Reds kick-off the new campaign when Barrow visit The Racecourse the following weekend.

"It is gearing up nicely," said Hughes. "Everyone has got minutes in the bank which has been important this last week, especially against Stoke and then Curzon.

"The squad will come together again this week and we will work on a few things ready for Crewe, and then build on that next week ready for Barrow."
