THE three managers who served Wrexham during the 2018-19 season liked a loan signing or 12!

Sam Ricketts, Graham Barrow and Bryan Hughes brought in a dozen loanees between them as Wrexham finished fourth in the National League, securing a play-off spot for the first time in six years.

Ricketts began the season in The Racecourse hotseat and he recruited eight players - Rob Lainton, Brad Walker, Jordan Maguire-Drew, Stuart Beavon, Rekeil Pyke, Freddie Hinds, Scott Burgess and Bobby Grant - on temporary deals.

Ben Tollitt and Cole Stockton were signed on loan by his successor Barrow while Hughes, who took charge in February, added Jermaine McGlashan and Anthony Spyrou for the run-in.

Lainton and Grant made their moves to The Racecourse permanent and started along with Beavon as Wrexham's promotion challenge came to an end following a 1-0 play-off eliminator defeat to Eastleigh, McGlashan appearing as an extra-time substitute as Walker missed out through injury.

The Reds are preparing for a 12th campaign in non-league and Hughes has hinted that he will dip into the loan market, although not on the scale of last season when some temporary signings proved to be a success and others failed to impress.

Here's how they rated:

Rob Lainton: Easily the best of the loan signings, eventually joining permanently. Lainton kept 25 of Wrexham's club record equalling 26 clean sheets and was deservedly named Player of the Season. 9/10

Brad Walker: Was a presence as the holding midfield player, earning him a move to League One Shrewsbury, and was missed as injury kept him out of the run-in. 7

Jordan Maguire-Drew: The winger made an explosive start to his Racecourse stint but could not keep it going and was allowed to leave early. 5

Stuart Beavon: Worked hard for the cause and the striker always gave 100 per cent, ending the season as joint leading scorer with six goals. 6

Rekeil Pyke: Made a habit of scoring back heel goals, spell was hit by injury but looked good on return before Huddersfield sent him to Rochdale. 6

Freddie Hinds: The striker did not make a competitive appearance and was continually overlooked by Sam Ricketts. 0

Scott Burgess: Hardly got a look-in, only making two substitute appearances under Ricketts. 1

Bobby Grant: A high profile signing often left supporters feeling frustrated but showed what he was capable of in play-off defeat, and you 'd hope for more of the same in 2019-20. 5

Ben Tollitt: The winger wasn't used enough under Graham Barrow but made the most of his chance when Bryan Hughes came in as he tormented defences and also scored goals. A shame he had to leave. 8

Cole Stockton: Was used sparingly and only scored once. Was expecting more of an impact from the frontman. 2

Jermaine McGlashan: His brilliant winning goal at Barnet secured a play-off spot but the winger squandered a fantastic opportunity in the eliminator defeat to Eastleigh. 3

Anthony Spyrou: Offered very little and was ineffective when he did play. 1
