BRYAN HUGHES has quashed rumours Brian Flynn has left Wrexham and says he will remain as assistant manager next season - and hopefully years to come.

Hughes was appointed the Reds' third boss of the 2018-19 campaign in February and promptly brought in Flynn as his right-hand man.

Flynn, manager at The Racecourse from 1989-2001, and in charge when Hughes came through the youth ranks, was out of contract this summer.

But Hughes says Flynn will be part of his backroom staff for Wrexham's 12th season in non-league and the former Wales international was at the club on Tuesday when striker JJ Hooper became the third new signing of the summer.

"Brian will be staying," said Hughes.

"He has been great. Just that experience and knowledge to call upon being a young manager myself.

"He was a young manager when he first took the reins so he has got a lot of experience that I can lend off and I am delighted that he is going to be staying next season, and hopefully numerous years to come."

But Hughes is looking for a replacement goalkeeping coach as Jussi Jaaskelainen, who spent last season at The Racecourse, has left to return to his native Finland.
