BRYAN HUGHES believes Wrexham have got a good mix of pre-season friendlies that will provide different tests ahead of a 12th campaign in non-league.

Hughes has arranged seven games as part of the build-up to the 2019-20 National League season, with the Reds announcing they will play Portuguese Primeira Liga side Portimonense SC during the club's pre-season training camp in the Algarve.

Wrexham begin their programme away at Cefn Druids on Saturday June 29 before playing host to Fleetwood Town on Friday July 5.

The break in Portugal takes place from July 7-10 and upon their return, Hughes takes his side to Telford on Saturday July 13 and Wrexham then face Stoke at The Racecourse on Wednesday July 17.

Wrexham are back on the road at Curzon Ashton on Saturday July 20 before completing their preparations for the new season with a home game against Crewe on Saturday July 27.

"I am really looking forward to it," said Hughes.

"Looking at our schedule in general we have got some good opposition.

"A Championship, League One and League Two team, two National League North teams and a Welsh Premier team.

"I have tried to mix it up a little bit just to give us different things to work on."

The 2019-20 campaign starts on Saturday August 3 and Hughes, who guided Wrexham to a play-off place last season where his side lost 1-0 to Eastleigh in the eliminator, believes facing a variety of opponents in pre-season will stand the Reds in good stead.

Stoke are the highest ranked team in the football pyramid and manager Nathan Jones is set to bring his first team squad which will include Wales internationals Sam Vokes and Joe Allen, who had a short loan spell with Wrexham while at Swansea in 2008.

"Everything is gearing towards that first league game," said Hughes, who will look on with interest when the fixtures are released on Wednesday July 3.

"We don't know who we will be playing yet in the first game but I am just trying to give us different types of styles; we know that Crewe are a passing team so that will give us a different test going into the first game.

"Stoke will be a good occasion at home. It is always a big game against Stoke and their first team are coming over."

The visit of League One side Fleetwood on a Friday evening was recently added to the list and Hughes has no plans to arrange any other matches.

"It is good to get it finalised," said Hughes.

"That weekend was the only one that was missing before we fly out to Portugal so Fleetwood will give us a good test coming over to The Racecourse under the lights on a Friday night which should be great."

The friendly against Portimonense, who finished 12th in the Portuguese top flight last season, is set to take place at their home ground, the 9,544 seat capacity Estádio Municipal de Portimão located in the centre of the town of Portimão.

The match will be held on Tuesday July 9.
