BRAD WALKER refuses to rule out playing again for Wrexham this season.

The midfielder, on loan from Sam Ricketts' Shrewsbury Town, has been out of action since picking up a hamstring injury in the opening minutes of the 1-0 top of the table defeat at Leyton Orient on March 9.

Having played a key part in Wrexham's promotion challenge, Walker is running out of time to be passed fit for Saturday's final day showdown against Harrogate Town at The Racecourse.

But with Wrexham already guaranteed a place in the play-offs, Walker could still feature again in a Reds shirt and the 23-year-old hopes to say goodbye to supporters by making his comeback to boost the push for a place in the Football League.

"It has been a tough time for me. I have hated every minute of it to be honest," said Walker.

"I just want to be back playing so hopefully I will be back soon.

"I don't have any timescale on it, I am just taking it day by day.

"I think we have still got a very big chance of being promoted so hopefully I can feature again and help get us over the line.

"I think I need to say goodbye properly!"

Walker revealed he had a set-back in the road to recovery but having stepped up his rehabilitation, still has a chance of adding to his 26 league appearances for the Reds.

"I am back running and stuff so I am just going to see how it goes," said Walker.

"I am stepping up the rehab and I have been doing a lot more than I have been doing because I had a little set-back at the start of it all when I thought I was going to be back quicker than I was."

Walker initially joined Wrexham on loan from Crewe Alexandra in August but after returning to Gresty Road at the start of the year, was snapped up by Shrewsbury boss Ricketts following a string of impressive performances as the holding midfielder.

Having already played for Crewe and Wrexham this season, Walker was unable to represent Shrewsbury and was immediately loaned back to the Reds.

But although he is officially a Shrews player, Walker's heart is definitely in Wrexham's push for promotion.

"I am taking a massive interest," said Walker.

"I have spoken to the lads and been in to see them.

"Obviously I am still not finished there yet so I can't wait to be back playing."

Wrexham have booked a play-off spot for the first time in six seasons and go into Saturday's clash with Harrogate sitting ... in the table.

Walker admits the end of season games will be difficult but hopes an upturn in form will give Wrexham the best chance possible of finishing the job off.

"The play-offs will be a tough test like every game in this league is," added Walker.

"We just need to get some consistency now until the end of the season and go from there."
