BRYAN HUGHES does not think Wrexham deserved to lose against Halifax Town as the Reds now face three play-off matches in their quest for promotion.

The Reds' run of three successive wins came to an end as Halifax scored an injury time winner to triumph 2-1 at The Shay.

"It was disappointing to concede late on like that," said Hughes. "But I thought we had a right go and we were bold in our substitutions to try and win the game.

"It became a bit stretched at the end but I don't think we deserved to lose the game if I am being totally honest.

"Things like that happen in games late on. He has cut in on his left-foot, he has gone in between players and it has gone between peoples legs, and it has gone in the bottom corner.

"But from a man, I thought we worked hard, we had great energy levels about us and on the value of the second half, we were definitely on the front foot.

"Circumstances change the outcome of games and if James Jennings' header goes in at the back post, it could be a different outcome."

Defeat means Wrexham definitely cannot finish in the top three and will host either Harrogate Town - the Reds' opponents on the final day of the regular season this Saturday - or Eastleigh in the preliminary round of the play-offs.

"Now you can reflect and plan the next couple of weeks," added Hughes.

"We have got Harrogate coming up, whether that is a tactical battle now because we could play each other in the play-offs, I will decide that with the coaching team during the week.

"There is still a lot to play for. What I am trying to get into the players is this is a stumble in the road again, now we have got to focus on getting back to winning ways, starting with Harrogate.

"If we will all the games, we go up."
