BRAD WALKER could still feature for Wrexham but Bryan Hughes is planning for life without the key midfielder.

Walker, on loan from Shrewsbury Town, picked up a hamstring injury in the 1-0 defeat at Leyton Orient on March 9 and there are fears he could miss the rest of the campaign.

Wrexham have five matches left in the push for promotion, culminating with a home game against Harrogate on April 27, and Hughes accepts Walker might not be involved again.

"We are speaking to Shrewsbury all the time to see where Brad is at," said Hughes.

"He has stepped his rehab up a little bit, he is on the grass now and doing a little bit of light jogging.

"The reports are he is still getting soreness afterwards, it is just going to be a week to week thing with Brad and just see how he goes.

"From my point of view, I have got to plan and prepare as if we are not going to use him because he is out for six weeks and that is going to take us right the way till the end of the season."

There is better news regarding Luke Summerfield who has been sidelined since January with a calf problem.

"I don't think Luke will be ready for this weekend but he is making progress which is really good news," said Hughes.

"He has been joining in training this week, and Cole Stockton as well. I'd say at the moment they are 60-70 per cent full fitness."

Wrexham, who have suffered four defeats in their last five outings, will aim to get back on track tomorrow with victory against a side Braintree that was relegated last weekend despite beating Gateshead 2-0.

Hughes says the pressure will be off the Iron now their fate has been sealed.

"Obviously we want to try and put the recent disappointments behind us," said Hughes. "All focus is on Braintree now.

"At this stage of the season there are teams that can play without fear. Braintree got a good win on Saturday so it is not going to be an easy game.

"I think all teams enjoy coming to The Racecourse, it is a nice big stadium for them to enjoy themselves in.

"What we have got to do is make sure we are right. Recently we haven't been but we are fully focussed on our job and what we need to do, and hopefully we will get a response on Saturday."
