BEN TOLLITT has urged Wrexham to go on and finish the job off after ending his successful loan spell at The Racecourse on a high.

The Tranmere Rovers winger completed his three month temporary stint by scoring the only goal as the Reds beat Maidstone United 1-0 to reignite their promotion challenge after two successive defeats.

Tollitt has made a big impact during his time with Wrexham and the 24-year-old was delighted to make a goalscoring finale and help secure a much needed win.

"I suppose it was meant to be," said Tollitt. "I couldn't have wanted to sign off in a better way, 1-0 and me getting the goal; it was perfect.

"I said I wanted a goal before the game. You can't be selfish and just be shooting all the time but the chance came and I took it.

"The way the fans saw me off was brilliant. You can't ask for much more and you know you have done something right when you get a reception like that.

"Thanks to them for having me and being like they have been towards me, it has been brilliant."

Tollitt scored on his debut as a substitute in the 5-1 thrashing of Salford on Boxing Day and although he even failed to make the squad twice under Graham Barrow, started all eight games since Bryan Hughes took over as manager at the start of February.

"I loved it here," said Tollitt. "It was very up, down, up.

"I started well, then I wasn't playing and then a new manager has come in and given me a chance.

"I have really loved it under the new manager."

Tollitt, who scored both goals in the 2-0 win at Boreham Wood on February 19 which took Wrexham to the top of the National League, added: "Collectively and individually it has been a good few months.

"Moments that I will live with and keep with me.

"Football is a short career so when you have a high moment you have got to make the most of it because they don't come round too often."

Tollitt refused to rule out returning to Wrexham when his contract finishes with Tranmere at the end of the season.

"If Wrexham do want me then happy days, I will see how it goes," said Tollitt.

"I can definitely say I have loved it and if they are interested in me I will be happy."

But for now, Tollitt wants third placed Wrexham, just one point behind leaders Leyton Orient who have two games in hand, to clinch promotion.

"I will be a Wrexham fan towards the end of the season," added Tollitt.

"I will always keep an eye out on the results now I have been here and I really do hope they go up."

Hughes hailed the impact made by Tollitt during his spell at Wrexham and admits being without the winger, who fired home against Maidstone after racing onto Paul Rutherford's through ball, for the final seven games is a big blow.

"It was obviously a tough game again in the conditions but a moment of quality has won it," said Hughes.

"We spoke at half-time about our front three making runs behind Maidstone's defence and it was a great first touch by Tollitt, and a great finish, and that was the difference between the teams.

"Ben has done exceptional for me and it is fitting for him to go out on a goal and a win, a clean sheet again.

"He had a bit of a frustrating start to his career at Wrexham but since I came in I put him straight in the team, he has played every game for me.

"He has been fantastic since I've come here. He has chipped in with goals and assists so very grateful to him. He is going to be a big miss, he gives us something different."
