BRYAN HUGHES promised he wouldn't make wholesale changes at Wrexham but he is delighted to put his own stamp on the team - and see it working.

Wrexham head into today's clash against Gateshead at The International Stadium on the back of four successive wins, taking the Reds to the top of the National League.

Three of those victories have come under Hughes who has had to deal with injury problems since his appointment as manager earlier this month.

But Hughes has also given Ben Tollitt and Jason Oswell, both under-used by previous manager Graham Barrow, their big chance and he is pleased that it has paid dividends.

"When I first got announced as manager my emphasis was trying to build momentum," said Hughes.

"That was my first thing. I didn't want to come here and change personnel too quickly, I didn't want to change formations.

"I have gradually done it and for the benefit.

"You speak about the likes of Ben Tollitt getting his chance and Kieran Kennedy coming in. I have just given them opportunities really and something different that they offer for the team.

"Jason Oswell was outstanding at Boreham Wood.

"He is a different type of forward to what we have got; he is a workhorse, he can back in, he holds the play up and he gets in good areas so we have got a real good blend right throughout the squad to pick the personnel depending on who we are playing against."
