BRYAN HUGHES is over the moon to become manager of a club close to his heart.
Ex-midfielder Hughes, who started his playing career at Wrexham and earned a big money move to Birmingham City after helping the Reds reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup in 1996-97, has taken over The Racecourse hotseat.
Wrexham are challenging for promotion from the National League and Hughes is relishing the opportunity.
"I am excited," said Hughes. "It is a wonderful opportunity for me. I am coming into a top club, a club that is very close to me personally.
"Going forward as manager it is exciting times.
"The team is sitting healthy in the league, it is quite a privileged opportunity for me because when there is a change in manager, usually it is when teams aren't doing too well.
"I have been very fortunate to come in sitting in a healthy position and now it is all about delivering.
"It is all about building momentum and getting consistency in the group, and keep building on that."
