SHAUN PEARSON hopes a favourable fixture list between now and the end of the season can help reignite Wrexham's promotion challenge.

Graham Barrow's side have endured a torrid start to 2019 and go into today's home game against lowly Maidenhead United on the back of five successive defeats, with four in the National League.

The latest loss came on Saturday as Wrexham lost 2-0 at AFC Fylde, one of four teams who sit above the Reds in the race for the title.

Having played both matches against most of their title rivals, including Salford, Solihull and Fylde, Pearson is looking for the Reds, who sit four points behind leaders Leyton Orient, to benefit from facing teams lower down the table in their final 16 outings.

"The good thing is you look at the fixtures, I know we have got to go away to Leyton Orient and Ebbsfleet but in general we have played most of the top sides," said Pearson.

"Of the top four we have played three of them twice.

"The fixtures are there for us to potentially put a good run together but there is no point looking at that if you keep losing games.

"We have got a good opportunity against Maidenhead and we need to get back to winning ways soon so hopefully it can be Saturday and we can start a run, because we need one."
