REKEIL PYKE'S parent club Huddersfield Town are battling for their Premier League lives but the striker is focused on Wrexham's promotion challenge.

Pyke has scored five goals since joining the Reds for a second loan spell last summer and he has been rewarded with a new contract with the Terriers that runs until June 2020.

Huddersfield are bottom of the top-flight and this week sacked manager David Wagner, but Pyke's priorities lie with Wrexham for the rest of this season.

"That is for the players that are there that have been playing, it is nothing to do with me," said Pyke.

"It is going to be tough for them (to stay up) but my focus is here at Wrexham because I am not there.

"I need to keep my focus here, try and progress here and try and get promoted with this team."

Wrexham head to fellow high-fliers AFC Fylde on Saturday looking to end a run of four successive defeats and Pyke remains upbeat.

"Everyone is still positive so hopefully we can bounce back," said Pyke.

"It will be a tough game but if we are focussed and we play well, I don't see why we can't win."

Pyke has recovered from a hamstring injury sustained in the goalless draw at Barrow on November 27, appearing as a substitute in the last two games.

The 21-year-old hopes to start at Fylde and get back amongst the goals.

"Hopefully I can get a start and show what I can do, hopefully score a couple of goals as well," said Pyke.

"I had a target in mind but obviously I had an injury set-back.

"Hopefully I can get back in and get to that target.

"I just need keep to working hard in training which I have been doing and hopefully I get my chance."

Pyke sustained his injury in Sam Ricketts' last game as Wrexham manager and he added: "I had a good run of form, scoring and playing well.

"I was enjoying it as well, it was just unfortunate that I got the injury.

"Graham Barrow has taken over since then but not a lot has changed because he was first team coach so there are a lot of things that are still the same."
