WREXHAM went down 1-0 at home to Dover Athletic and suffered two successive league defeats for the first time this season.

Graham Barrow's side, beaten 2-0 at title rivals Salford City on New Year's Day, were on top against Dover but didn't take advantage and the Reds were undone by a late goal.

The starting line-up showed two changes from the side that lost at Salford.

Right-back Kevin Roberts returned in place of Mark Carrington and Luke Young took over from Akil Wright in midfield.

Wrexham were quick out of the blocks and Stuart Beavon's second minute header was saved by goalkeeper Mitch Walker while Paul Rutherford's low drive flew wide.

Bobby Grant, who made his loan move from Fleetwood permanent earlier in the week, also fired wide and Jake Lawlor was off-target with a header after meeting Luke Summerfield's free-kick.

They had all been half chances and another arrived in stoppage time, Grant unable to get James Jennings' cross under control and Walker pounced on the loose ball.

Wrexham had an even better sight of goal less than 60 seconds after the restart but Summerfield headed over from Rutherford's centre.

Barrow made his first chance in the 53rd minute with Beavon replaced by Ben Tollitt who was straight into the thick of the action and brought a save out of Walker.

Summerfield was denied by Walker after being set-up by Grant while Wright came on for Young in Wrexham's second change.

Dover hadn't threatened all game but Summerfield did well to deny Inih Effiong a scoring opportunity.

Wrexham had a brilliant chance to take the lead when Wright was put through on goal but his effort was blocked by Walker and Rutherford was unable to put away the loose ball.

Chris Holroyd replaced Brad Walker but Wrexham fell behind with two minutes to go following poor defending.

The Reds failed to clear their lines and substitute Anthony Jeffrey fired home from just inside the area to put Dover ahead and win the game.
