PAUL RUTHERFORD praised the versatility in the Wrexham side after backing up the Salford success with a hard-fought victory against Solihull Moors.

The Reds, convincing 5-1 winners at home to Salford on Boxing Day, beat Solihull 1-0 at The Racecourse on Saturday thanks to Rutherford's 49th minute goal.

Wrexham were involved in a physical battle against Moors but Rutherford was pleased the Reds showed they are up for a fight.

"We have played tough teams, teams in and around us in the league," said Rutherford.

"Salford, make no mistake, despite the scoreline are a good side.

"It was a tough game and Solihull was a completely different game.

"It was more of a physical battle and I thought it showed the versatility in the squad that we could go toe-to-toe with two different styles and we could come out on."

The only goal came when James Jennings cross was flicked on by Stuart Beavon for Rutherford who converted.

"James did unbelievable getting down the line, he beat a couple of lads and put a good ball across the box," said Rutherford.

"Stuart has flicked it towards me, I have just had to get anything on it and it has gone over the line so buzzing."

Rutherford now has two goals in four games and he added: "I am getting prolific now!

"I felt I have been unlucky this year not to get a couple more, I have had a couple off the line, a couple of own goals.

"I feel I have been a threat so hopefully I can chip in with a couple more and we can carry on getting points on the board."

Rutherford's hard working displays have not gone unnoticed by manager Graham Barrow.

"Paul has been outstanding," said Barrow.

"I'm not sure how much is left in that tank of his but he keeps running and he has been magnificent for me in particular but I think he has done really well all season."

Barrow hopes to retain the services of Brad Walker and Bobby Grant whose loan deals end in the next seven days.

"The board are on with it, things are moving and hopefully moving in the right direction," said Barrow.

"I think both players want to stay; I would say we are a bit closer with Bobby at the moment so I am really hopeful because Bobby's finishes after the Salford game.

"Brad is after Dover which gives us a little bit more time.

"As long as it is the right deal then hopefully we can get them."

Barrow, who has seen winger Jordan Maguire-Drew's loan spell come to an end, is also looking to bolster his attacking options in the January transfer window.

"We have got to try and look for new faces as well," said Barrow.

"For as well as we have done, you look at the attacking players Solihull had to throw on from the bench. We are a little bit short and if we really want to push for it, we have got to try and do something about it.

"The board is backing us so we have got to do some business.

"We have to get a couple in and if we get them right, we will be alright."
