GRAHAM BARROW wants automatic promotion but the Wrexham boss admits a home semi-final in the play-offs wouldn't be a bad second prize.

Wrexham thrashed title rivals Salford City 5-1 at The Racecourse on Boxing Day and are now second in the National League, three points behind leaders Leyton Orient with a game in hand.

Just one team will go up automatically but finishing second or third will guarantee a home game in the play-off semi-finals and avoid a preliminary round tie, and that is the minimum aim for Barrow.

"There are big games to come and nobody has set any targets," said Barrow.

"Obviously you have to win it for automatic promotion but the top three guarantees you a home semi-final.

"I think if you aim for the top then hopefully you finish at the top, if not then you finish with a home semi-final.

"That is way ahead but that has always been in my mind so let's just keep going."

Barrow admits the landslide win against Salford will make sit up and take notice but he wants to keep winning games so Wrexham remain among the leaders.

“All it does is make you a bit of a target," added Barrow.

“The best thing about us is that we have been top, so it is nice to be where we are now and to keep in there.

“We talked a few weeks ago about staying in the race, that is the best way to stay in the race, winning games.

"We talked about these away performances where we keep picking up points, that just rubber stamps it.

"Because we are not on this arena, sometimes the football away from home is not that great but it takes two to tango.

"The best thing we doing is picking up points away from home and then coming home and playing like that."
