BEN TOLLITT admits his Wrexham debut couldn't have gone any better and the winger hopes there is a lot more to celebrate during his time at The Racecourse.

Tollitt has joined the Reds on a short-term loan deal from Tranmere Rovers and he came off the substitutes bench to score the fourth goal as Graham Barrow's side thrashed title rivals Salford City 5-1 on Boxing Day.

When asked whether he could have had a better debut, Tollitt said: "In a word, no.

"I just thought I would come here and it would take me a while to get going.

"But personally it was a good start for me and as a team it was even better winning 5-1.

"You can't ask for more than that, apart from a clean sheet, but it was a deflected goal so you can't really do much about that."

Tollitt was introduced in the 64th minute and immediately set about running at the Salford defence, the 24-year-old rewarded with a goal.

"I will always try and play like that," said Tollitt.

"You want to try and get at them and make an impact as soon as you come on so that's what I did.

"I was on the sidelines, it was 3-0 first half and I was thinking 'they are so open, this could really suit me'.

"When I got on I thought I was going to exploit the gaps and start running into them, and that's where my goal came from.

"I picked up the ball in the middle with a bit of space and just drove at them."

More than 8,200 fans packed out The Racecourse as Wrexham moved up to second place, three points behind leaders Leyton Orient with a game in hand, and Tollitt said: "For this level that is amazing.

"I know every footballer probably says it but the support you get does really help.

"I can only thank the fans for turning up and being like they were."

Tollitt says there can be no let-up from Wrexham when they host fourth placed Solihull Moors at The Racecourse tomorrow.

"If you go and beat Salford who are paying lads what they are paying, and spending money like they are, it just shows that we are going to put up a fight against anyone," said Tollitt.

"But this has gone now and you want to try and move on to the next game.

"You want to try and use the momentum that we have got from Salford and carry it into the coming games because we have got so many coming up.

"To replicate 5-1 every game will be tough but we can only try our best and what will be, will be.

"But for as long as I am here, I will try my best and I'm sure the lads will for the rest of the season."

Tollitt, unable to make his debut in Saturday's goalless draw at Aldershot because international clearance had not been received, is already enjoying life at The Racecourse.

"The lads have been class," added Tollitt. "They have welcomed me really well and you can't really ask for more than that.

"I haven't really had a proper full training session with them yet but you can see that we are starting to click already."
