JAKE LAWLOR wants to prove a point and help Wrexham beat Salford City at The Racecourse this afternoon.

The centre-back joined Salford from Guiseley during the summer but never made an appearance for the Ammies and jumped at the chance to sign for the Reds in September.

Lawlor will line-up against his former employers this afternoon and he wants a Wrexham win in the top of the table encounter.

"I want to play well, I want to prove them wrong and I want to get the three points," said Lawlor.

"It is a massive game, we have just got to play our stuff and hopefully get the three points.

"It won't take any motivation for any of the boys to get up for that one, everyone will be bang on it and we have got to try and win the game.

"We have just got to keep doing what we are doing, keep performing like what we have done and get the three points."

Wrexham began the busy festive period with a goalless draw at troubled Aldershot on Saturday which leaves the third placed Reds six points behind leaders Leyton Orient with a game in hand.

Chances in the second half went begging but Wrexham kept another clean sheet and Lawlor insists it might be a good point in the promotion race.

"We did well at the back and another clean sheet," added Lawlor.

"We were a bit unlucky not to win the game but I think we have got to do better at times.

"Towards the end of the first half we picked up and in the second half we were definitely on top.

"Their goalkeeper has made a great save off Akil Wright and a few cut-backs haven't fallen for us but on another day we win it one or two nil.

"I think it is two points dropped to be fair but coming away from home, it is another clean sheet and it is a point.

"At the end of the season we might look back and think it is a good point."
