WREXHAM drew 0-0 against Aldershot Town in Graham Barrow's first match as permanent manager.

Barrow, appointed as Sam Ricketts' successor on Tuesday following a spell in temporary charge, saw Wrexham create some good chances in the second half but the troubled Shots, who had a lengthy injury list, took a point from the contest.

The started line-up showed four changes from the side that beat Boston in the previous outing when Barrow rotated his squad for the FA Trophy first round tie.

Rob Lainton, captain Shaun Pearson, Bobby Grant and Stuart Beavon returned to the side in place of Christian Dibble, Nicky Deverdics, Mike Fondop and Chris Holroyd.

There was little between the sides in the opening exchanges and returning striker Beavon's overhead kick was cleared in the 15th minute while ex-Reds striker Gerry McDonagh had a shot blocked by Pearson at the other end.

Grant was well off target for Wrexham at the other end but the Shots were seeing a lot of the ball and Adam McDonnell fired wide.

Another Grant effort never troubled goalkeeper Will Mannion but Wrexham came even closer when James Jennings' volley was deflected onto the roof of the net.

Pearson's header from the resulting corner was cleared off the line and Paul Rutherford's curling effort landed the wrong side of the post as Wrexham upped the tempo.

It was a strong end to the first half by Wrexham who saw Akil Wright's low drive saved by Mannion after the break.

Luke Wanadio fired into the sidenetting for Shots but Wrexham then put the hosts under increased pressure and came close to taking the lead.

Beavon's shot from Grant's pull-back was blocked by the legs of Mannion who then kept out the striker's header, but the Shots goalkeeper pulled off an even better stop to prevent Wright's header from crossing the line.

Wrexham kept pressing in the final 10 minutes and Jennings' drive was squirmed by Mannion who gathered at the second attempt, and the Reds left-back found the sidenetting with another attempt on goal.

McDonnell should have done better but shot wide from a good position as the Shots countered, and Lainton saved Josh Lelan's drive in stoppage time as it finished all square.
