RGC’s Principality Premiership clash with Pontypridd was cancelled after their opponents could not fulfil the fixture.

The Friday night encounter, which was also set to be shown on BBC Scrum V, was called-off after Ponty informed the Welsh Rugby Union that they could not make the trip to North Wales on the specified date.

A statement from the WRU, said: “The Principality Premiership match between RGC and Pontypridd RFC, scheduled for Friday, January 18 has been postponed until later in the season as Pontypridd confirmed they could not fulfil the match on the scheduled date (set by broadcast partners in November).

“We appreciate and understand that many of you are frustrated with the lack of updates and information regarding the scheduled fixture against Pontypridd RFC.

“The WRU Competition’s Management Committee are currently reviewing the matter so we hope to be in a position to update everyone on when this fixture will be rescheduled very shortly.

“Thank you for your patience and please understand that this matter is not in our control.”

This is the latest in a series of Friday night changes involving the Gogs’ and those teams based in the south, with their fixtures against Bedwas and Llanelli earlier in the season also moved to accommodate difficulties for opposing sides.

Mark Jones’ side will look to progress in the SWALEC National Cup this Saturday when they welcome Cardiff to Stadiwm Zip World in Colwyn Bay (2.30pm).
