WREXHAM AC members were among the 50,000 runners brave the challenge of the London Marathon at the weekend.

Four of the club's membership headed to the capital for the world-famous race, with James Mills running a fine time of 2:38:23 to place 326th outright.

Strong showings from the North Walian cohort saw impressive sub three-hour times for Andrew Jones (2:51:06) and Ryan Davis (2:58:37), with clubmate John Davies (3:11:53) close behind.

There was another quartet of Wrexham runners in action at the mid-Cheshire 5k in Kingsley, where Sam Sussex clocked 16 minutes exactly to place 62nd.

Following on were Luke Northall (16:29), Garth Chaloner (18:09) and Richard Westwood (22:01).

Phil Pumford (70th in a time of 16:04) was Buckley Runners' pacesetter, placing ahead of clubmates Chris Callaghan (17:00), Nicholas Armstrong (18:00), Andrew Peers (18:38) and Jane Doughton (21:27).

Euan Coney was Deeside AC's sole representative as the U21 runner rounded the course in 17:20.

The final meeting of the Borders Road Race League in Prestatyn saw the Deestriders women's team secure promotion to Division One, while their men's team dropped out of the tier and will compete in Division Two next season.

The impressive individual performances of striders pair Steve Thomas and Jay Jennions saw them pick up trophies in their respective age categories.

Wrexham men's team clinched a runners-up spot in Division Two, with Luke Northall, Joel Gomes and Mike Robbins each rewarded with individual awards.

The Sea to Summit Marathon saw club runners embark from the Prestatyn seafront before taking to the hills and traversing more scenic terrain.

Wrexham's Sean Merryweather clocked 4:45:247 to finish fifth, with clubmate Charles Ashley (6:18:44) winning the M60 class to place 19th overall

Linda Jones was fastest in the W50 category and 14th outright with her time of 2:47:04.

Following on were clubmates Karen Owens (3:22:36), Nick Venables (3:28:42), and Alex Edwards (4:41:45).

Karl Williams was third fastest at the latest Wepre ParkRun, completing the 5k circuit in 21:35.

Deesider Stephen Jolly (21:48) was close behind in fifth, followed by Buckley's Jennifer Rambaldi (24:15), Deestrider Vincent Edwards (25:41), and Buckley pair Clair Attenbury (26:15) and Chris Hunt (26:42).

Wrexham plays host to the latest round of the Cheshire Track and Field League on Saturday, with action underway at 11.45am.

With events suiting entrants of all abilities, the 2019 Red Kite Challenge will begin at 1pm from it's Devil's Bridge start point.

The North Wales team will be in action at the UK Young Athletes League U17/U20 in Preston on Sunday morning.

Penmaenmawr plays host to the Big Rock 10k at 10am, with the Welsh 5k Road Championships set for a 7pm start in Cardiff.
