DREADFUL weather conditions were not enough to stop the Chester Romans youth team from powering to tournament success last weekend.

The Under-16s branch of the American football team took part in their first tournament of the 2019 season on Saturday, showing themselves to be a side to be feared.

Chester Romans U16s came away from the tournament, in Manchester, with three straight wins in which they scored a huge 79 points, while conceding just 8 in an offensive and defensive masterclass.

Their opening clash brought a comfortable 31-2 win over Crewe, before the young Romans side were equally ruthless in their next game, a 30-0 destruction of Burnley.

The Chester Romans youth team concluded the competition with another commanding performance, this time leading to an 18-6 victory over hosts, Manchester.

Quarterback Alex Ross was instrumental throughout the competition, claiming several assists through throwing five touchdown passes.

Benefitting most from Ross’ inch-perfect throws were the wide receivers Jordan Brady-Williams (5), Kaia Dodman (2), and Matthew Hayes-Triggs (2) who all scored touchdowns for their side.

Chester will be hosting the next Youth Tournament on Saturday, June 8 at the Cheshire County Sports Club.

But before that, the Chester Romans junior team (16-18) are due to begin their competitive season with an away fixture against Doncaster this Saturday, May 4.
