FLINT PHOENIX C dealt a blow to Llanferres C's North East Wales Badminton League Division Three promotion hopes by recording a 7-1 success.

Moira Bonar and Pauline Brooke-Rankin were the Llanferres winners at second ladies, but that merely denied the impressive visiting Phoenix a whitewash win.

Phoenix found visiting Denbigh B a tougher proposition as the duo played out a 4-4 draw.

Jordan Donnelly and Gemma Browne combined impressively for Phoenix at third mixed, beating Denbigh player of the match, Alun Hughes, and Bethan Sian 21/12, 21/16.

The gulf in class between Division Two top dogs Eros and struggling Connah's Quay was laid bare as the high-flyers recorded an 8-0 whitewash.

Aarthy Aravind and Sian Ellis came closest to a win for the Quay, but in a battling performance they were beaten 21/10, 20/22, 21/13 by Kerry Roberts and Sheila Palmer.

Quay improved in their trip to Hawarden, but the hosts still came up short as they lost 6-2.

Charlie Cahill was Quay's player of the match, combining with Kris Paterson at second men's to beat Ian Price and Roy Thompson 21/19, 21/19.

Llangollen look set to be back in the second-tier next season after they suffered back-to-back defeats at the hands of Denbigh A and Deeside.

Denbigh A dished out an 8-0 whitewash, Dave Edwards and Karl Young coming closest to victory for Llangollen as they were beaten 19/21, 21/16, 24/22 by Richard Elston and Wayne Cooper.

Deeside duo Gareth Thomas and Cerys Brackenbury combined to beat Llangollen's Nik Evans and Jane Jones 19/21, 21/16, 24/22 in their 6-2 overall success.

Flint Phoenix B, who look set to join Llangollen in Division Two next season, were beaten 8-0 at Mold A.

Chris Jones and Nicola White put up the most resistance for Phoenix, but they eventually lost 21/12, 19/21, 21/8 to Pete and Debbie Walker.

Entries to the Seniors Annual Handicap Tournament at Deeside Leisure Centre on April 7 are now being accepted. Forms can be downloaded from newba.org.uk or picked up from club secretaries.
