CARYS JONES enjoyed a memorable weekend as the teenager pocketed medals as the Welsh Nationals and Newba Senior Gold tournaments.

Jones, of Llanferres, clinched silver in the Under-19s girls doubles at the Welsh National on Saturday, before following that up with gold in Deeside 24 hours later.

Hannah Evans had to settle for silver as Jones won the final without conceding a game.

Jones was unable to continue her fine run as her and Jess Markey were knocked out in the semi-finals of the women's doubles, which was won by Georgia Hughes and Sammy Hutt.

Jamie Noble won the men's singles, beating Andre Cardoso 15-17, 19-17, 15-10, while Roy Hinchcliffe and Dave Standring lifted the men's doubles title, defeating Ian Cottrill and Andrew Chatterton 15-9, 17-15.

In the mixed doubles, Hutt added another title to her collection, joining forces with Andy Gibbons to beat favourites Hughes and Joe Cottrill 15-9, 13-15, 15-12.

Turning to league action, Llanferres won their Division One double-header with Deeside and Llangollen.

Cerys Brackenbury and Ashley Oxborough impressed at first mixed for Deeside, beating the husband and wife partnership of Dave and Jane Clough 21/18, 21/17, but Llanferres were still able to secure a 5-3 success.

There was nothing for Llanferres to worry about at Llangollen as they whitewashed the home side 8-0.

Andy Swash and Jones combined at third mixed to see off Dave Edwards and Zoe Pritchard 21/5, 21/5.

In Division Two, Buckley suffered a mixed week as they slipped to a 6-2 defeat at Hawarden before beating Connah's Quay 5-3.

Nathan Barron and Charlotte Ince starred at third mixed for Buckley against Hawarden, outlasting Rob Jones and Lorna Kernahan 19/21, 21/19, 21/16.

At Connah's Quay, it was home duo Megan Pritchard and Kris Paterson who caught the eye as they defeated Greg Jones and Chris Dailey 21/17. 18/21, 24/22.

Denbigh B's Division Three home clash with Prestatyn C turned out to be a formality as the visitors were beaten 7-1.
