BORDER KICKBOXING continues to go from strength-to-strength after starting the new year in style.

Jack Jerrard and Luke Fleet secured success at the WKO English Open, before the Llangollen-based club added 12 more medals at the WFMC British International Open.

Jerrard, 27, took gold in the K1 -75kg at the English Open in Barnsley, while 17-year-old debutant Fleet secured silver in the low kick rules -75kg.

That success was followed up by one gold, nine silver and two bronze medals at the British International Open in Birmingham over the weekend.

The Stockdale family, featuring dad, Steve, and children, Finn and Ciara, claimed four medals between them. Finn led the way with a gold and silver, with Ciara claiming a silver and Steve taking bronze.

Brother and sister, Luke and Cerys Fleet also impressed, the former adding to his English Open haul with a silver and a bronze, before his sibling also grabbed a silver medal.

Hal Chesterfield and James Nicholas both won two silver medals apiece, with Dan O'Connell also claiming a second-placed finish.

Coach Laura O'Donnell said: "We're are delighted with the achievements in what was the first competition for many over the weekend.

"There were 300 fighters in Birmingham and it was a competition of a high level."

Jerrard, who also fights in MMA, is the club's head coach with classes held at St Martins scout hut between 6-8pm on a Tuesday and at Llangollen Leisure Centre on Thursday night between 6-8pm.

Any age groups are welcome with members currently ranging from eight to over 50 years old, while not everyone has to compete.

O'Donnell added: "We get families turning up now to help learn discipline and respect. It's not all about fighting."
