HAWARDEN A showcased their talent by beating Flint Phoenix B 12-4 to progress in the North East Wales Badminton Association Challenge Cup.

Rob Jones and Louise Cothier were the standout performers for Hawarden, the duo combining to overcome Phoenix pair Chris Jones and Jane Liddle 21/11, 21/12.

Hawarden B were unable to match the performance of their first team as they were beaten 9-7 by Prestatyn A.

Veteran Roy Thompson and John Font fought impressively for Hawarden, drawing with Glyn Watson and Terry Wynne.

Flint Phoenix C made up for their second string's exit from the competition by edging past Holywell B 10-6.

Phoenix player of the match, Steven Davies, and partner Gwenda Moorcroft, were unfortunate to lose to Melinda Lyons and Paul Jones 21/15, 21/19.

Turning to league action, Division One leaders Flint Phoenix A came unstuck as they suffered a first defeat of the season to Denbigh A, who wrapped up a 5-3 success.

The pick of the action saw Flint's Moorcroft sisters, Zoe and Tara, combine at second ladies to defeat Helen Evans and Helen Gardner 12/21, 21/11, 21/14.

Rossett B, third place in Division Two, showed no mercy on struggling Holywell A as they cruised to a 7-1 success over their visitors.

Holywell duo Nicky Garnett-Hughes and Anne Booth were their side's winners, combining at first ladies to beat Hazel Davies and Marie Jones 13/21, 21/17, 21/14.

Prestatyn A showed just why they have a healthy lead at the top of Division Three as they defeated second placed Mold C 7-1.

Match of the evening was at first mixed, where Glyn Watson and Sonia Penlington held off Mold's Helena Warman and Shamanth Moodalbyle to win 18/21, 21/13, 23/12.
