FLINT PHOENIX A continued their relentless pursuit of the North East Wales League Division One title with an 8-0 whitewashing of Deeside.

Steve Barlow and Luke McLaughlin came closest to winning for Deeside, but they were outlasted by Dave Carnelly and Andy Gibbons 21/7, 18/21, 21/14.

Flint Phoenix B followed their first team's lead with a fine 6-2 success at fellow strugglers Llangollen.

The classy Chris Jones and partner Jane Liddle were standout performers for Phoenix, beating Dave Edwards and Lynn Coxey 21/18, 14/21, 22/20.

Mold were unable to end Eros' unbeaten start to the Division Two season as they slipped to a 7-1 defeat.

At second mixed, the mother and son partnership of Trish and Liam Hird gave Eros duo Hannah Stephenson and Stuart Mears a run for their money before losing 21/15, 16/21, 21/12.

There was nothing to separate Llanferres B and visiting Rossett B as they played out a 4-4 draw.

The undefeated Ben Warnott was player of the match for Llanferres, combining with Hazel Hislop to beat the experienced Dave Lovatt and Toyoko Cornelius 21/15, 11/21, 21/18.

It was a similar story in Division Three as Flint Phoenix C came away from Denbigh B with a 4-4 draw.

The highlight of the night came at first ladies doubles as Denbigh's Jane Thomas and Bethan Sian edged out Flint duo Catrin James and Gemma Browne 21/15, 21/15.

The Badminton Wales Senior Gold Tournament takes place at Deeside Leisure Centre on February 17.
