Hundreds of young footballers will compete at Buckley Town's annual junior football tournament this weekend.

Hosted at the Globe, the three-day event will attract dozens of teams competing across a range of age categories.

With close to 700 players competing in seven-a-side games, thousands of spectators will also be in attendance for the region's biggest junior event.

Buckley Town JFC have over 360 players involved in each age group from U7s to U16s, with the event expected to attract a raft of teams from North Wales and beyond.

Buckley Town Junior Football Club chairman, Kevin Holden said: "Buckley Town JFC is proud to host another tournament that caters for more than 680 children over the weekend, which is one of the largest in the county and surrounding areas.

"This is our biggest fundraiser in the diary and it's vitally important to raise much needed funding for equipment for the 360 children currently enrolled with us.

"The whole town really pulls together to support our youngsters for this event providing sponsorship, help and assistance in the running over the three days, it is an event in the diary that the whole community looks forward to.

"A final mention goes to all our Buckley Town JFC volunteers, all 58 off them, that work relentlessly to put this spectacular tournament on each year without them such an event wouldn’t take place.’’

A limited number of spaces remain in the U11 and U9 sections, with a fee of £45 payable for each 10-player squad entered.

The event coincides with the half-term break and runs from Friday, May 31 until Sunday, June 2
