JOHN HASELDIN insists his relegation-threatened Holywell Town players will thrive under the pressure of their all-or-nothing home clash with Holyhead Hotspur.

Anything less than victory at Halkyn Road on Saturday will see the Wellmen’s four-year stay in the Cymru Alliance ended in a critical weekend of action.

Even a three-point haul from their final game may not be enough for the hosts, with fellow survival-hopefuls Penrhyncoch able to preserve their own league status with a home win over Conwy Borough.

But after guiding his team through a four-game unbeaten streak, Hasledin has called for positivity against an already-relegated Hotspur side.

He said: “For me as manager, there’s no more pressure on this game than there has been on us in the last six weeks or so.

“The position we’ve found ourselves in meant that we had to start picking up results quickly and the players have dug in to do just that.

“They’ve done it in the games against Llanrhaeadr, Penrhyncoch and Denbigh. They have all stepped up and delivered in big games and we’ll need that again against Holyhead.

“We want cool heads and big hearts, which is what we’ve been asking for from the lads this last month.

“The players have delivered the performances when the pressure has been on and I’m confident they will do again on Saturday.

“We can’t afford to over-think things and get too worried about what’s happening in the other game at Penrhyncoch.

“It’s all about us taking care of our own job and making sure we get the result in a must-win game.”

Hotspur’s own season was effectively ended last weekend in their 5-1 League Cup final defeat to double-winners Airbus.

The Anglesey club’s league form had improved prior to that, but they remain bottom of the division after registering just five wins in 29 league outings to date.

Despite their lowly position, Haseldin has demanded a high-intensity performance from his players to reward the loyalty of the club’s supporters.

“We’ll need to play well to beat Holyhead”, he added.

“They’ve had a rough season like ourselves but have good players that I know well. You don’t get to a cup final at this level by being a poor side.

“We grafted for a point at Guilsfield last week and I suppose time will tell if that’s a good point for us or not.

“The support there from our fans was brilliant on the day, as it has been in lots of our games this season.

“They clapped the players on and off the pitch and they deserve to stay in the league more than anything.

“Hopefully we can give them a performance to be proud of and we get the rub of the green with how things go in the other game.”

Matty Hughes and Tony Roebuck return for Holywell after missing the Guilsfield game, though Matty Harvey, Tom Hartley and Paul Williams remain sidelined with injuries.

Cymru Alliance player of the season Mel McGuinness will lead the line for Hotspur in the club’s final Tier Two match.

Holywell have reduced admission prices for the game in a bid to attract a bumper home crowd

Tickets are priced at £3 for adults and at £2 for concessions, with free entry for under 14s.
